Thailand is now the largest rice exporter in the world. Thailand, one of the top exporters of rice in the world, has almost reached its rice export target for the marketing year 2011-2012. According to the Thailand Food Association, the country has imported 81 percent of the target.
Rice production is important for Thailand – for both its local food supply and national economy – and, as a result, the Thailandese have become experts at producing rice of the highest quality.
Thailand is one of world’s richest agricultural regions and is the second-largest rice exporter worldwide and the world’s seventh-largest consumer of rice. Rice is called ‘white gold’ in Thailand.
